I recently had an arborist company take down six older weed trees that had grown over our home over the past 30 years. We found that two of the trees had severe rot in the trunk and would have collapsed in the near future.
For many, this winter has been especially difficult. Even locations much less accustomed to snow and ice experienced paralyzing storms. Your trees may have survived, but they also may have been weakened and could pose a threat when Spring and Summer storms hit.
More than three-fourths of trees that fell during a weather event showed signs of a pre-existing and often correctable condition that made them vulnerable. But many tree health issues are correctable without removal.
